You know when you’re on the beach, soaking up some rays, playing with your family or just relaxing in the sand, and then out of the corner of your eye, strolling up the beach, you see it, the dreaded “Beach Tag Checker”. You know you don’t have a beach tag, nor do you have a dollar to your name. What are your options?
You can either…
A) Decide that all of the sudden a 15 minute dip in the freezing Atlantic Ocean is needed.
B) Embrace your narcolepsy and take a snooze.
C) Sweet talk your way out of the situation by coming up with a sob story about forgetting your beach tag at your sick Aunt-in-Law’s elderly care village.
D) Give up the chase, run home and grab some cash and concede to persistent work of the tag inspector.
Well our Septober Employee of the Months winner, Sue Kelly, heard all of these stories and more when she was an infamous Beach Tag Inspector in Stone Harbor, N.J. as a teenager.
“It was a tough job, but we all thought it was funny when people would try to avoid us,” she says. “It was difficult approaching people at first, but it did help me learn how to talk to people.”
Sue has translated that important skill into her current role at Scott Honda where she is the Lease Options Coordinator, communicating with all of our leasing customers throughout the life of their lease.
“Sue is awesome, because she is so reliable and our customers love talking to her!,” says General Sales Manager Marius Krawiec.
She also assists the New Car Department when they need a little extra help.
“Sue is someone I can always count on when I get super busy, because I know if I ask her to help me with a project, it will get done right,” Inventory Control Manager, Tina Moriarty says.
A biology major and education minor at Lafayette College, Sue was a 2nd grade teacher in the Ridley School District until she gave birth to her oldest son Wade. Interestingly enough both Wade, 22 and Max, 19 have worked at Scott Honda during breaks from high school and college.
“It was great working with my boys,” she says. “I love being with my kids and getting to watch them work in a professional environment was lots of fun.”
Born and raised in Wallingford, now a West Chester resident, Sue is nearing 9 years with Scott Honda. However her first experience at Scott Honda was as a customer, with Joe Collins as her sales person, when she and her husband Sean, with whom she recently celebrated a 25th Anniversary, bought a 2003 Honda Pilot.
“I really enjoy working with all the people here,” she says. “I love that it’s a well established business in our community, plus I love the logo, I’m a real big fan of being on the water!”
Settling into her new location in the rear corner of the main showroom, Sue is always ready to talk some college lacrosse or Flyers hockey.
“I became a Flyers fan when they won the cup in 1974 and I’ve been hooked ever since,” she recalls.
Beyond just talking hockey, Sue was a member of the “Chix with Stix” team based out of the Chester County Skating Club at the Upland Country Day School.
“We got tired of watching our kids have so much fun on the ice,” Sue told us. “So I played 3 seasons as a defenseman for the team and had a blast!”
Well we hope you know a little more about the always friendly and helpful Sue Kelly, be sure to congratulate her on her selection as the Septober Employee of the Months and let us know who you think deserves the award next time!
