Congratulations to our own Al Del Rossi on his Retirement

Last Friday Al Del Rossi got a surprise.  As he stood in the service lane helping customers his co-workers were plotting a Dunder Mifflin-esque retirement party.

His cake was customized, the people were assembled and Al was brought with a confused look into the showroom.  That look of bewilderment quickly turned into a grin that stretched from ear to ear as 30 people clapped and congratulated him on his last day at Scott Honda.

Al thank you for your hard work during your six years here and we wish you luck in sunny Florida!  Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Scott Employee of the Month: May – John Hassis

“Jay”, “John”, “Jack” no matter what you call him, you’ll have to start referring to him as “Employee of the Month”!

Congratulations to Lot Attendant, John Hassis, our May E.O.T.M. and the second winner from Scott Select since the award began one year ago this month.

Lot Attendants are among the busiest folks at a dealership and are often overlooked or taken for granted, but not John.  If you poll his fellow co-workers at Scott Select and ask them who the hardest working person there is, they would all say “Jay”, “John” or “Jack”.

“When I ask John to do something I never have to worry if it will get done,” says Scott Select’s General Sales Manager, Kevin Shoemaker.  “That is a real comfort as a manager.”

John came to us after a career that few are aware of.  He was a disk jockey for WPAZ Pottstown, a community radio station where he did everything…literally.  He was program director, sales manager, the play-by-play announcer for local baseball games, he even shoveled the snow (at least he can still do one of those things at Scott Select).  Unfortunately the station went off the air in Dec. 2010, but the good news was we acquired one hard worker.

When he wasn’t on the air as “Jay Warren” on WPAZ, John kept busy as the Assistant Manager of the Reading Comedy Outlet, where he got to meet such comedy legends as George Carlin as well as local comedians Joe Conklin and “Big Daddy” Graham of 94 WIP fame.

During the moments he wasn’t running the station or the comedy club (which doesn’t seem to leave too much time) John brushed up on his Civil War knowledge.  A true Civil War enthusiast, John is a member of the Civil War Trust and the Friends of Gettysburg where the preservation of both the history and the land is their number one priority.  John has also been known to speak to Middle School classes about that defining time in America’s history.

A big congratulations to John Hassis (he’s not a Sr. either) for his well deserved honor, we hope that now you know a little more about this great employee!

Scott Employee of the Month: April – Chris Kelly

During the week you’ll find Chris Kelly, our Used Car Administrator and April Employee of the Month, all around Scott Honda, ensuring that our Certified Honda’s are stocked in, Carfax’d, and written up for the proper 150-point Honda Certification.  But during the weekends this 26-year-old checks inventory of a different sort.

Chris, scours the lists at local auctions looking for some rare, one-of-a-kind bargains to add to his collection.

“I find a lot of things that I’m really drawn to, things you can’t find anywhere else,” he told us.  “I just furnished my whole house pretty inexpensively!”

So how exactly does a 20-something get interested in the bargain-hunting of items older than he is?

“My dad started taking me when I was young and I’ve never stopped going!” Chris said.

So what’s the best item he’s ever found at an auction?

“Once I bought five actual photos of Abraham Lincoln.”  However when asked if he had any other great finds he went the magician’s route.  “You can’t tell everyone about all of your good stuff, some of it has to remain a secret.”

You may be wondering (as we were), is Chris showing the signs of a hoarder?

“I am not a hoarder, but people ask me that all the time,” he said confidently (but we still aren’t sure).

Well either way, we are proud of the work that Chris Kelly does for Scott Honda and we congratulate him on this great achievement.

“Chris comes to work to work,” says David Greaves, general sales manager.  “He sets a great example for the whole team and is very deserving of this honor.”

Scott Announces Free Scott Sailboat Tattoos for All Employees

Image

At our quarterly kick-off meeting yesterday Scott Auto Group announced a new branding initiative to really get our logo out into the community with the help of our employees!

“Traditional advertising has gotten so expensive and is so fleeting, that we felt we needed to really think outside the box,” Marketing Manager, Douglas P. Scott told the 154 employees in attendance. “That’s why we are announcing our ‘Scott Sailboat Tattoo Program’ (S.S.T.P.) as a free perk to all of our loyal employees.”

The announcement was met with a standing ovation, head nodding, fist pumping and numerous high-fives!

While not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged that everyone participate in this bold departure from regular advertising. As an added bonus the first 25 employees that signed up got a free QR Code tattoo that when scanned takes folks to Scott Honda or Scott Select’s mobile-enabled website, depending on which dealership they work for.

Jeanette Winters, assistant controller (pictured above) jumped at the opportunity for some new ink!

“I love, love, love this idea and they both go great with my ‘Dream’ tattoo,” she told Sconda Blog yesterday. “With the warmer weather coming up it’s a great time to get our logo out there! I put mine on my forearms so I can look at them all day while I work in ADP!”

We are working with a local tattoo parlor that preferred not to be named because they felt the Scott Sailboat wasn’t “cool enough” and that it could “hurt their bad boy image” but we think once this catches on some of our most loyal customers will want to get in on the fun!

“We are very excited about the ‘buzz’ we expect to get from S.S.T.P.,” General Sales Manager, David E. Greaves said after the company meeting. “I’m going to get mine on my left shoulder and put the QR Code on my right calf! The viral nature of this program should get us some great local news coverage and sell us at least an additional 50 cars in April.”

Sconda Employee of the Month: March – Kelly Copeland

If you walk past the kitchen in the late afternoon and hear a great laugh, followed by the monotone voice of Ray Romano, there’s a pretty good chance that the employee of the month for March is eating her lunch while watching her favorite show Everybody Loves Raymond!

Well this month “Everybody Loves Kelly Copeland”, congratulations on earning the title of Employee of the Month!  Kelly has been a devoted employee here at Scott for three years and she was in fact our very first temp from the Monarch Staffing agency.

“They knew what they were doing when they placed her with us,” says Human Resources Manager, Cindy Chrupcala.  “She has been a joy to work with from the first day she started here and she is very deserving of this honor and is a real team player.”

Kelly is responsible for payroll and makes up the other half of our Human Resources Department, but did you know that she is also a very multifaceted mother of three, an avid gardener, candle collector, yard sale hopper and warm weather enthusiast?   Save your extra boxes, newspaper and packing peanuts for Kelly’s unique brand of gardening.  Ask her about it!

Ok, we’ll tell you.  Kelly prefers to garden organically, which means she doesn’t use any pesticides to grow her fruits, herbs and vegetables. Why is that, you might ask?

“Because I eat what I grow and I want it to be chemical free,” she told The Spinnaker.

When asked what her favorite thing was about working at Scott Honda was, she said, “I like the atmosphere here.”

Kelly, you do a great job and you add something special of your own to the atmosphere at Scott Honda (including the aroma of various floral candles).  Thank you for all of your hard work!
