Scott Honda Technician, John Cross had such a great time playing roller hockey with his 7-year-old son last winter, he decided to form a team of his own, despite having no real hockey experience.
Cross recruited fellow technicians, Dave Brown, Dane Hopwood and Tim Andrzejewski, and eventually found more team members from the Service, Parts and Sales Departments to fill out the 11 person roster.
"I like spending
time with my friends outside of work in a fun, competitive environment," Cross says. "As a
team, we're actually building better relationships with each other, which will
benefit us on the job as well."
The "Lock 'n Roll" team, who play in the Summer Inline D Division at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, use the famous Scott Sailboat as their logo and have rolled to a record of 1 and 5 so far, but that record hasn't dampened their spirits.
"We're not the best
team in the league, but considering we're brand new, we are doing
very well and improving every week," says the team's second leading points scorer, Stephanie Bahnatka. "We're having fun and staying fit and
that's what matters most."
The new team even has some loyal fans, like Service Advisor Fred Alvisi. "
It's a bunch of
good people playing their game of hockey," he says. "I enjoy watching them play together
as a team." Other fans of the team include include significant others, children, siblings, parents, and even more Scott Honda employees.
Vice President Duke Scott sees multiple benefits for the Lock 'n Rollers, "Being active is very important to the improvement of a persons overall health and the
camaraderie
that is built within the team dynamic definitely benefits them at work. I hope we see even more teams sprout out of this sports success story."
This summer season was the beginning of this team, but it will but it will be the end. Team Lock 'n Roll has locked into the upcoming Fall season as well, where they hope to increase their fan base and maybe even improve on their record.
Sconda wishes them luck…and maybe a couple more wins, they are representing the Sailboat after all.
