Hello readers, it's your faithful blogger Douglas P., here and it feels like a good time to reflect on the time, energy, resources and outcomes I have observed since I pressed the "publish" button on my very first Sconda post nearly five months ago.
The concept of a blog for our dealership sprang from a conversation about giving our salespeople a digital platform they could use as a sales tool while working in the showroom with customers, an online "Evidence Manual" as we call them. I was so enthused by this idea I literally had a blog in formation 30 minutes later. I had no idea what it would look like, how I would really use it or if people would read it, but for $89 the risk seemed minimal.
Well, 55 posts and nearly 4500 visitors later I can truly say this has been one the most fun and challenging ledges I have stepped out on in a while.
A little background on your humble blogger, I was a journalism dork at Emmaus High School and Colby-Sawyer College and my first job after graduation was at the now defunct Suburban & Wayne Times in Wayne, Pa. So this venture has rekindled my writing itch and given me a great new avenue through which to share the story of this dealership.
While I have used this platform in a different way than I originally intended, it has actually proved to have even more potential than I first thought. As you can tell by the long list of categories, I have been able to cover a huge spectrum of topics ranging from our long history, Honda's future, to performing dolphins that have nothing to do with cars.
What I would like to do is increase traffic and the number of comments on my posts. My most successful series were my stories about the "Beach Billboard" both of which I actually solicited feedback, but that can't be done on every article.
I also wish Typepad were better able to track what posts get the most visits, what links get the most clicks and with their new version I lost the ability to see daily visits on my photo albums. In order to see what you you really need data and right now I am not seeing what I would like to in order to know what works and what doesn't.
Moving forward, I look forward to even more customer integration. Future ideas include a whole series on people who have made their Scott Honda's into traveling billboards for their businesses. The premise being, you advertise for us by leaving the Sailboats on, now let us do some advertising for you by writing a nice article that the whole world (or just friends and family) can read.
I also want to tell more stories about the amazing folks that work here at Scott Honda as well as get my fellow employees to use Sconda Blog as a resource to stay up to date on what is happening at their place of business. It is possible that a well read Sconda fan could know more about this dealership than people who have worked here for 20 years.
I can go on and on with my other ideas, the trouble is time. I have added this to my workload and taken nothing away, so trying to drop three posts a week (my goal) can sometimes feel like a daunting task. Slowly, but surly people are catching on and I look forward to finding newer and better way to use this great medium for folks to enjoy!
