You Sconda followers did such a great job helping us with our "Beachy Billboard" that we're back for more because shore season is almost over.
The motivation for this billboard is provided by our friends at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, who decided that the perfect spot for a large "Variable Message Sign", informing drivers of potential traffic and drive times would be directly in front of our billboard. A location that obscures our wonderful sign (one of the only billboards on Rt. 202 in Chester County) as you drive past it.
This huge, expensive sign is almost completely worthless and a well placed sink hole is about the only event that could rectify this situation. So I am battling back the only way I know how, by using them as my inspiration.
It is important to note that when this board is actually lit, it reads "Average Travel Time To (location) Exit (X)MI (X)MIN" 95% of the time.
The artwork was created by making a grid of small yellow dots in Photoshop, placing them side by side and copying and pasting them until I had a long row of them. Then I systematically deleted specific dots in order to create the numbers, letters and sailboat. (If someone knows of a font that does this automatically, please don't tell me now…it's too late.)
Below are the two versions of the billboard I have generated to this point, any feedback from our brilliant followers is much appreciated.
good job Doug E Scott. u r doing exactly what u should with that level of creativity. rock on.
Hi Doug! I like the first billboard! I read it as more clear and love the idea of the cleverness relating to the transportation sign. Very clever!!!!
Doug,
A favorite site of mine http://www.dafont.com check out the fonts under the techno category.
Oh yeah I love the first billboard
dug 2 words for ya….layer mask!
love the 1st billboard! quick + easy to read + in a format that we are all familiar with – it will “alert” everyone to take a look
U r so good at this!
I like the first one too! Good job Doug! Can you make the dots a brighter orange to match PennDot’s sign?
These billboards certainly bring out the best in my readers. Thank you all for you feedback.
Dre, 2 words, “Thank You”.
Stephanie, I thought about changing the dots to orange, but I worry they will be too hard to see. I also tried changing the color in “image adjustments” in Photoshop, but I couldn’t make it orange and I don’t have time to start over with all orange dots at this point. I have however added an outer glow to make them more light bulb-like.
Erin, thanks for the font suggestion, I will check that out for sure. Tracy, Ron and Paige thanks for your comments… Version 1 it is, it’s my favorite too.
Great job Birthday boy~
Love the first sign. Brilliant Idea.. Keep up the good work!
