Scott Employee of the Month: February – Billy Standring

For the last decade there’s been a success story developing in the Parts Department and we thought it was time to share that story.

A young Billy Standring came to Scott Honda right out of high school, and has become an adult before our eyes.

Tom Worthington, Parts Manager, says it best.  “We’ve watched him grow up from a kid, to a valued employee, to a husband, to a father.  He’s one of our success stories!”

Congratulations to Billy, our February Employee of the Month.

So what has kept Billy here for all these years?

“I love numbers and I love helping people,” he says.  “Everyday there’s something new!”

When he’s not at work Billy still manages to keep in touch with his co-workers.

“I’ve played Call of Duty with 6 or 7 people from Scott Honda at the same time,” he says with a smile.

Billy’s also talking about trying to use social media to assist in the promotion of Scott Honda’s Parts Department.

“It would be great to have a YouTube Channel and put specials on Facebook,” he says.  “YouTube would help us reach more people.”

Billy and his wife Rita live in West Chester with their 2 ½ year old daughter and they are expecting another child any day now, we can’t wait to meet their new addition!

Scott Employee of the Month: January – Jen Lower

Imagine talking on the phone, and a person standing next to you starts trying to ask you a question, then someone else calls you on the other line, subsequently a co-worker approaches, giving you hand gestures, attempting to ask if they can borrow something random,  like a piece of tape?

While you might call a situation like this stressful, Scott Honda Receptionist, Jen Lower calls it…a typical Monday morning.

It is because of her amazing ability to handle predicaments like that, with a smile and a calm tone of voice, as well as her many other great traits, that we award the January employee of the month to Jen Lower.

While Jen technically started working here as a booker 4½ years ago, because of her father, Parts Manager Tom Worthington’s long tenure with Scott Honda, Jen has essentially grown up a “Sconda Kid”.

“I was doing data entry after school when I was 14.  I just always just assumed I would work at Scott Honda,” she said with a grin.

While many know of her receptionist skills, what you may not know is that Jen is an avid blogger and overall social media maven.    Her blog, called MamaZEN is a must visit for parenting tips, fashion conversation, ideas for your home and help with how to raise your little ones.  Jen’s Mama Zen alter ego can also be found on Facebook and Twitter.

So how does Mama Zen deal with the pressure and multi-tasking needs of manning Scott Honda’s helm in the showroom?

“It can be difficult being ‘Up’ all the time for employees and customers, but I do my best,” she says.

What she enjoys most about her position is “working out in the open, by the large windows and I also enjoy helping with the company newsletter too.”

Along with her new parking spot, gift card to a local eatery, Jen is the first to get to pick the colors of a new Sconda Pen, an added reward for EOTM winners! Look for her pink, orange and green creation coming  soon!

Congratulations Jen and thank you for all the little things you do to help us steer the  Scott Sailboat!

Scott Sailboat Spied on Saab in Los Angeles

Scott is proud to have a legion of Scott Sailboat Spies all across the globe, constantly aware while out and about, looking for our classic logo on the back of vehicles where ever they travel.

Anthony, one of our loyal spotters, spied this Scott Sailboat on the West Coast, while driving in Los Angeles, California.  The back of this, gold, 1997 Saab 900 S is home to a prefect black sailboat that survived 14 years, at least one trip across the country and the unfortunate bankruptcy of her nameplate.

Anthony your reward of a Sconda Hoodie will be placed in the mail for your hard work as Scott Sailboat Spy…well done.  Take a look at some of our many other Scott Sailboats that have been spotted!

Scott Employee of the Month: December – Sara Pyfer

Like one of Santa’s little helpers Sara Pyfer does a lot of work behind the scenes.  When food magically appears at a company meeting, holiday hours of operation get hung on the front door and festive decorations add some seasonal cheer to the showroom, it isn’t actually magic, it’s Sara.

Many of the neat, cute, necessary and even fun things that go on within our walls that you maybe never really thought about how they actually happened are the direct result of the hard work, care and effort put forth on a daily basis by Administrative Assistant Sara Pyfer.

Sara joined the Scott team 4 years ago to help our growing company stay organized, stay connected and stay fun, ok well she may have added that last part on her own.

“Sara has been an invaluable member of our company since day one,” says General Manager Michael Contino.  “I nominated her for employee of the month because I know how much work and dedication she puts in to her job and I thought she deserved a public thank you from me and Duke.”

Along with that “Thank You” comes a parking spot for the month right next the dealership and a $75 gift card to Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant that will come in handy this hectic holiday season.

“It’s very nice to be recognized by the people you work with everyday,” says Sara.  “I was actually very surprised to get this award, but it’s nice to feel appreciated and to be thanked for your work.”

Speaking of “Thank You’s” one of the new parts of Sara’s job is posting many of the great Thank You notes we get from customers every day on a cork board in the employee kitchen at Scott Honda.  Make sure you read some of the great things our customers are saying about their experiences here.

So when the sprinkler test is passed, the back flow gets certified and the copier counts are tabulated, just know it wasn’t one of Santa’s Little Helpers, it was Sconda’s Little Helper, Sara Pyfer.

Scott Honda Donates 20 Thanksgiving Dinners to Chester County Families

The refrigerator was filled with milk, butter and pumpkin pies.  The conference table was covered with boxes containing packs of stuffing, cans of corn, beans, the all important cranberry sauce, oh and there were 20 Turkeys in the Service Drive.

No, this wasn’t the makings of a huge company party or a new viral YouTube video of wild Turkeys running through a dealership, it was the lead up to 20 boxes being filled with all the necessary items for a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner for 20 area families.

Scott Honda and our employees once again helped to make the lives of families in our area a little brighter during this holiday season.  We teamed up with the amazing folks at Big Brother Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania (BBBS SEPA) to make sure that 20 more families in Chester Country were able to sit around the dinner table with those they love and eat a proper Thanksgiving meal complete with all the fixins!

“This is by far my favorite cause that Scott Honda donates to,” said Human Resources Manager Cindy Chrupcala, as she hauled a cart full dinners through the dealership.  “This is something I look forward to every year because I know we are having an immediate  and positive impact on good people in our own backyard.”

Once the frozen Turkeys were put in the boxes, four cars from BBBS SEPA pulled in the drive and we all began to load their trunks with holiday cheer (Not surprisingly the orange Honda Fit with a Scott Sailboat on the back took the largest load).

“Year after year we all are amazed by the generosity of the Scott Honda team,” said Lauren Brown MACP, Manager, Program for BBBS SEPA.   “These turkey dinners feed a lot of mouths and make the Thanksgiving holiday so much better for the recipients.  Thank you again for your efforts to make it happen!”

Scott Honda is honored to partner with BBBS SEPA whose mission is to help children achieve their full potential by providing them with a volunteer mentor who serves as an additional friend and positive role model.

We know the food drive makes a big difference for families in our community, especially considering that Chester County’s poverty rate has increased 62% in the last decade; and 7,100 Chester County children are living below the Federal Poverty Line according to BBBS SEPA.

The reaction of one women who received final box of food summed it up best for us.

Lauren told us that as the last family came to the office to pick up their dinner she “opened the box (of food) and the mother’s face lit up and she let out a long ‘WOOOOOOOW! ‘  She could not believe her eyes.”

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Scott Honda and Scott Select!

1st Annual Bake-Off was a Tasty Success – Winner Crowned

The smell of baked apples, sweet cinnamon and warm pie crust could be smelled wafting down the halls as one person after another brought their entry into the 1st Annual Scott Bake-off.

In all 12 employees joined the friendly (and tasty) competition to see who was the best pie or cake baker in all of Scondaland.

“We thought it would be a fun way to follow-up on our Chili Contest  from a few months ago,” said Event Organizer and Administrative Assistant Sara Pyfer.  “I was very excited to see so many people join in and for there to be such a great variety of pies and cakes, was very cool.”

The only rule was that the item could not be store-bought and it was the bakers job to make sure their entry could be consumed by as many voters (hungry co-workers) as possible.

After the last bite was taken and the final vote tallied, it was Sales Manager Joe Collins who went home with 1st place.  It was at home, with the help of both of his kids Callie and Max that his Country Bread Pudding was created.

“It was actually the kids idea and they did most of it themselves,” Joe said.  “They really had a great time with it and I’m happy for them that it turned out so well!”

The top prize of $75 will be used for the entire Collins family to go out and have a nice meal at a local restaurant together where someone else can bake them dessert.  Congratulations area also in order for runner-up Robin Moore and there was a tie for 3rd place between Clint Rupert and Phil Dunbar!

_______

Recipe for Country Bread Pudding

A loaf of Italian or French bread (firmer the better)

 3 ¼ cups of milk

 3 eggs

 2 teaspoons of vanilla

 ¾ cups granulated sugar

 ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

¼ cup pecans or more or less

 ½ cup brown sugar

Cut bread into pieces,(let sit out over night to stale).  Add sugar and cinnamon into a bowl, mix milk with eggs (lightly beaten) add vanilla to milk egg mixture. Add bread to a casserole dish, mix all the above together and pour over bread and mix together. Once mixed together , take pecans mixed together with brown sugar and add into the mix.  Preheat oven to bake at 350 and bake for 30 minutes or until lightly brown.

Enjoy!
